Former college tennis player

Tonight, former college tennis student-athlete, Ben Shelton, plays in the semifinals of this year’s U.S. Open edition against Novak Djokovic. Shelton played college tennis for the University of Florida. In his freshman year, he clinched the Gators’ first team national championship with his victory at number 5 singles. In his sophomore year, he won the men’s singles title at the 2022 NCAA Division I Tennis Championships. That same year, he was named the ITA National Player of the Year. In August 2022, Shelton announced he would be turning professional.

In August of 2022, he made his Grand Slam debut at the US Open and in January 2023, Shelton reached the quarterfinals of his first Grand Slam, at the 2023 Australian Open. He then lost in the first round of the French Open and reached the 2nd round of Wimbledon. Tonight, he will make his first appearance in the semifinals of a Grand Slam at the 2023 US Open.

College tennis is a great stepping stone for players that aspire to be professional tennis players. It allows you to develop your game physically and mentally before competing on the tour!
