Standing at 6’6” (198 cm), Sjoerd is a physically imposing and modern all-round goalkeeper. He is particularly strong in one-on-one situations, has excellent reflexes and is very capable when diving to the corners. Besides his shot-stopping abilities, he is a strong communicator who actively organizes and coaches his defense throughout matches.

With the ball at his feet, Sjoerd is calm and composed. He is comfortable playing out from the back and has a good eye for finding unexpected openings and opportunities to launch attacks and involve midfielders and forwards in transition play. Above all, he is a dedicated team player with a strong mentality and a constant desire to improve every aspect of his game.

Sjoerd started playing football at the age of six and became a goalkeeper when he was seven years old. From that moment on, he developed a strong passion for the position and began participating in specialized goalkeeper training sessions at his club. Determined to continuously improve and compete at the highest level possible, Sjoerd joined Keepersschool Groningen at the age of ten, where he still trains today among talented goalkeepers.

The intensive training and professional environment at Keepersschool Groningen have played an important role in his development and helped shape him into the goalkeeper he is today. Throughout the years, Sjoerd has also changed clubs several times in order to challenge himself further, benefit from stronger training environments and compete at a higher level.

In addition to his regular club training, Sjoerd consistently invested in his personal development by attending football and goalkeeper camps during summer and school holidays. He participated in camps and development days organized by organizations and clubs such as FC Groningen, Valencia CF, FC Emmen, Soccercamp Groningen and Keepersschool Groningen.
