    Personal Information

    Merel was born and raised in Limmen, The Netherlands. She grew up in a soccer family with her dad, mom, and two older sisters. She completed the second-highest level (HAVO) of high school in the Netherlands in May 2020 with combining school and soccer. She enrolled in Fall 2020 at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee, and is expected to graduate in spring 2024 with a degree in exercise science (GPA 3.3). Due to a shortened COVID year during her freshman year, Merel still has another year of eligibility. She is looking to use this season while obtaining a master's degree in the exercise science field.

    Athletic Information

    Merel is a central defensive midfielder that could also be used at other midfield positions. Although she is right footed, she is just as comfortable with her left foot. Her strengths are her passing abilities, great ball control and a firm shot. She also has a great overview and is calm when in ball possession.

    Merel started her career at V.V. Limmen where she played in a youth boys team until the age of 15. During this time, Merel was called up various times to play for the youth regional and national teams. At the age of 13 Merel was scouted for an academy team where she would have additional training together with her club team practice. At the age of 15 Merel got scouted for V.V. Alkmaar (Professional soccer academy) where she would continue her career. Merel played in the youth girls, playing in a boys' competition. At the age of 17 Merel committed to Lincoln Memorial University where she would play in the NCAA SAC competition for 4 years totaling 54 games of which she started in 47.

    In the summer of 2023, Merel got to play in the USL W league with Indy ELeven where she got to see the field multiple times and where Indy ELeven ended up being USL W league champions.
