Personal and academic information


Zoë Gubbels is a 17-year-old girl who lives together with her parents, brother and grandfather in Velserbroek in the Netherlands. Zoë can be described as a hard-working individual with a a broad interest, an eye for detail and a good sense of humor.  Furthermore, she is a kind and helpful girl, who goes out of her way to help people in need. 


Photography is one of her hobbies and when she has got a little bit of free time she like to make

jewelry as well.


In addition of being a great athlete Zoë also excels in the classroom.  She is currently in her senior year of high school at the highest level of education in the Netherlands (VWO/Atheneum) holding a 3.4 GPA and is expect to graduate in June 2017. She is attending the LOOT system, which gives athletes the possibility to train at top level next to their education


She would like to play college tennis and continue the combination of study and playing tennis at the best possible level at a university in America. Furthermore she loves to meet people from all over the world. She has lots of experience playing with a team and she enjoys this tremendously and therefor is highly motivated to compete for a college team.


Athletic information


Tennis has been a passion of her ever since she started playing at the local tennis club at the age of 5. he played for the National Tennis Federation (KNLTB), till she was 12 years old. 


During her junior career, she played the national circuits, national championships and she has always been nationally ranked amongst the top junior players in her age group (highest national junior ranking of 10). She was also selected to play for the National Tennis Federation (KNLTB), girls under 12. Zoë won several tournaments and participated in various junior national championship tournaments. Her best performance was: winning Nike junior tour and qualifying for Rosmalen to play against other champions on grass, where she reached the semi-finals. 


In 2016 she reached the quarterfinals of the National Championships under 18, where she had to play against the number one of the Netherlands, Nina Kruijer, who also played US open this year. In the Dutch national open women’s ranking she achieved a highest singles ranking of 149 and 46 in the doubles. 


Zoë is a right-handed player who is a counter puncher and likes to play an attacking ball at the right moment. She has excellent footwork and her biggest weapons are her serve, slice backhand and net-game. In addition, Zoë is a good doubles player with steady and efficient net game and she is a great team player. Zoë is a coachable player and likes to encourage her teammates.
