Personal and Academic Information


Anne Marijn lives together with her father (manager in an Amsterdam hospital), her mother (pediatrician at the AMC-university of Amsterdam) and her younger sister Lieke in Naarden , The Netherlands. As the daughter of a father who is a passionate field hockey player and a mother who played USA college tennis, Anne Marijn has always dreamed about studying in the United States.


Anne Marijn is modest, perfectionistic and a hard worker. She is a cheerful and very reliable team player and a quick learner. Besides studying and playing her favorite sport, Anne Marijn loves to meet up with her friends, she is an avid photographer (she is nominated for the Frans Lanting WNF photo award) and she plays the piano. Anne Marijn is committed to her local community and her school. She has contributed to social meetings for the elderly in her hometown and she is a member of the student advisory board at her high school. In her neighborhood she works as a babysitter and a dog walker.


Anne Marijn is in her senior year of high school at the highest level in the Netherlands (VWO) and is expected to graduate in June 2017. She is a very good student (4.0 GPA) and  has both a science/engineering as well as a science /health profile and will graduate in the subjects: English, Dutch, Greek, French, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Economics and Philosophy. In addition she has a Cambridge English proficiency diploma as well.


She has a very broad academic interest and has participated in many extracurricular activities, for example she has attended a masterclass program at the University of Groningen, a convention on Philosophy and she has participated in the Chemistry Olympiade. Anne Marijn is very interested in the human behavior and that is why she would like to major in Psychology and/or Psychobiology.


Athletic Information


Anne Marijn has been playing hockey since she was four years old and during her junior career she has always played in the first team of her age group. She played at the national level (Super B) and this year she plays topklasse for the highest girls team under 18. Her team made first place in the league this mid-season. Also, she is practicing with and playing for the first ladies team in the first division and can cope very well with the more physical level.


Anne Marijn is a strong and consistent offensive defender, who can play every position in the defense. She plays both as a central back and as a right back and she enjoys to use her offensive skills.  She has a strong tackle back and she never gives up. In addition, she has a highly accurate pass. In the defensive penalty corner she is the second runner.


She is currently trained by Vincent van de Peppel (Dutch international) and Kenny Bain (Scottish international and striker of Amsterdam 1).
