Personal and Academic Information

Puck, a native from Ede, the Netherlands, comes from an athletic family who has always been active in sports. Her mother was an Olympic contestant in rowing twice. Although field hockey is her big passion, she also has been active in other sports, such as gymnastics, tennis, track and field, skiing and snowboarding.

In addition to being a great athlete, Puck is also an excellent student. She is in a bilingual gymnasium class at the highest level of high school in the Netherlands and her school is ranked 3rd in The Netherlands in respect of the academic level. She is in the top of her class even though she is a year younger than all of her classmates (she skipped a class in elementary school). Puck is interested in science subjects like mathematics, chemistry, biology and science, but she also likes the languages e.g. Latin, English and Dutch. In addition she takes advanced classes in French and next year she will start following the IB english program obtaining the certificate in 2015.

Ever since Puck has visited her cousins in Katonah, New York, several times she has the dream to come study in The USA. Puck also joined classes for two weeks at The Harvey School in Katonah what is part of the bilingual curriculum of her school.

Puck succesfully completed her SAT (Combined score of 1280 on CR and M) and and TOEFL (107) and she is expected to graduate in June 2015.

Athletic Information

Puck started to play field hockey when she was 5 years old at hockey club MHC-Ede. From the age of 12, Puck was part of the District team of the Dutch Hockey Federation for three consecutive year, including this year.

As a result of these District trainings many other teams noticed her. However it was decided that it is considered best for her to further develop her skills at her own club where they together made a personal development program. Instead of the team of her own age (B1), she played in the first team of a higher age group, A1 at the highest level, in the season 2013/2014. Despite her young age, Puck already played for the woman’s team several times since the age of 14. She fits in easily and she scored quite a few times. This year she transferred to HC Wageningen where she will play for the first girls team at the highest national level. She will also continue to practice with the first women's team that competes in the Hoofdklasse.

Puck is a very good all-round player that performs at her best as a midfield player. In this position she can use her offensive and defensive skills best. She has developed a good insight on the game and a strong eye for the position of her fellow players.
Puck’s strong points are:

  • - Speed (first runner in the defending penalty corner)
  • - Physically strong and hard working
  • - Intelligent player
  • - Powerful forehand and backhand shot
  • - Team player

The coming season she will work amongst other things on her drag flick.
