Sam de Gier, a talented 16-year-old from the charming village of Breukelen, nestled between Utrecht and Amsterdam, is a dedicated student-athlete with a passion for achieving excellence both on and off the field.

Growing up with her older sister and two beloved cats, Sam has always thrived in a dynamic and active environment. Her days are filled with soccer practice six times a week, showcasing her commitment to the sport she loves. Despite her busy schedule, she manages to excel in her studies at the highest level of education in the Netherlands (bilingual VWO), demonstrating her determination and discipline. Along with IB-english, sam also does standard level english, chemistry, physics, biology, mathemathics, sport, french, Dutch and an advances subject called nature, life and technology.

Next to her academics and athletics, Sam loves to spend time with friends and explore her love of cooking, bringing balance and joy to her busy life.

Athletic Information

Sam is an exceptional young goalkeeper with a deep-rooted passion for soccer. She began playing soccer at just four years old, inspired by her family’s shared love for the game. Starting at a small neighborhood club, she played on a boys' team until the age of 11, when she transitioned to COV Desto to compete at a higher level in a girls' team. Her talent quickly stood out, earning recognition from the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) by the time she was 15. Last season she transitioned to Utrecht Women's Football Academy (UVVA). She also represented the FC Utrecht’s Under-16 team, part of the Dutch professional soccer league. She got the opportunity to play with FC Utrecht's Under-20 team, further honing her skills in a highly competitive environment. This season she transitioned to sv Saestum, where she plays in the women's senior team. There she plays at the highest amateur level. In addition, she trains with FC Utrecht's Under-20 team 1 time a week and she plays friendly matches.

Balancing the demands of competitive sports with a busy academic schedule, Sam is a dedicated student-athlete who trains six days a week while excelling at the highest level of education in the Netherlands. As a goalkeeper, she is known for her athleticism, fearlessness, and keen game sense. She excels in ball distribution and demonstrates excellent field vision, allowing her to effectively direct play from the back. Sam’s agility is evident in her ability to reach top corners of the goal, and her bravery shines in one-on-one situations, where her quick reflexes and rapid decision-making skills make her a formidable presence. Beyond her technical abilities, Sam is a natural leader. She supports and guides her teammates on the field, listens carefully to feedback, and continually looks for ways to elevate her game. With ambitions to pursue professional soccer while also completing her university education, Sam is driven, disciplined, and always pushing herself to new heights.
