Personal Information

Mats van de Peppel, born in Amsterdam, is 17 years old. After spending his early childhood in Amsterdam, he lived for three years in Bangkok before growing up in Bussum, a town in the center of the Netherlands.

In addition to Dutch, he speaks fluent English and conversational French. He adapts easily to new environments and is known for his positive attitude, social nature, and strong drive. Mats is disciplined, open-minded, and quick to connect with others. As a team captain, he leads by example—motivating teammates and providing constructive feedback in a natural and encouraging way. When he’s not studying or training, you’ll often find him playing soccer with friends. He also likes running and playing Padel.

Mats is currently in his final year of pre-university education (6 VWO), following an economics-focused curriculum that includes physics and English and French as foreign languages. Over the years, Mats has consistently achieved strong academic results while training four times a week.

This balance between high-level athletic performance and academic achievement requires discipline, focus, and commitment—qualities that energize him.

Mats is scheduled to take both the SAT as the TOEFL in the beginning of the Spring.

Athletic Information

Mats began his soccer journey at a local soccer club in Bangkok at the age of 2. When he was 4, he moved back to the Netherlands and continued playing at Bussumse Football Club (BFC). BFC is one of the largest amateur soccer clubs in the Netherlands, known also for its partnership with Ajax. During his junior career, Mats has always played for the first team in his age category at his football club. For the last six years, he has been the captain of the team. Around the COVID pandemic, he was selected to train and compete with the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB), where he played several matches at regional level (2019 and 2022).

In recent seasons, Mats has always competed in the top amateur divisions. At 16, he played in the under 17-1, division 3. After a few months into the season he was promoted early to the U19-1 team. Where he is still playing.

Mats is a central attacking midfielder with excellent vision and technical ability. He delivers precise through balls in behind defensive lines. Furthermore he has a creative dribble and makes many deep runs in behind the defence. He has a strong running ability and stamina on the field. He reads the game very well and has a lot of technical insight. Mats brings creativity in creating goal-scoring opportunities in the opponent’s half. As the captain, he leads by example by communicating clearly, motivating teammates, and maintaining a positive, winning mentality on the pitch.

Mats is now looking to further develop his soccer career in the United States while pursuing a degree in economics.
