Personal Information

Benthe Kaan is a 18-year-old girl from Zeist, The Netherlands, where she grew up alongside her twin brother in an athletic family. Her brother excels in soccer at the national level and also practices karate.

Benthe is highly ambitious, competitive, and passionate about sports. While field hockey is her main focus, she has also engaged in a variety of other sports like soccer, sailing, skiing, and snowboarding. She serves as a youth field hockey coach three times a week, holding a Basic Coach certificate and currently working toward her HockeyCoach2 certification, expected to be completed by Fall 2024. She also trains at summer hockey camps through hockeykampen.nl. Outside of sports, Benthe enjoys reading and babysits for two families in her neighborhood.

Academically, she is in her senior year at the highest level of Dutch high school (VWO), with graduation expected in June 2026. Her favorite subjects include History, Business Economics, and foreign languages like French and German. She also studies Mathematics, Dutch, English, Economics, Philosophy, Culture & Art, and Physical Education.

Benthe achieved a composite score of 950 on her SAT and is scheduled to take the TOEFL in the Fall of 2025.

Athletic Information

Benthe began her field hockey journey at age five with her club, Phoenix, and has consistently played on the highest team in her age group throughout her junior career.

Her strengths include a powerful scoop, a strong forehand, tactical insight, and impressive speed. Benthe is a dedicated team player, constantly striving to improve. Initially playing as a Center Defender, her preferred role is now as a Defensive Midfielder, where she excels at organizing the transition from defense to attack, coaching teammates, and delivering precise passes to create scoring opportunities. Recently, she's also been utilized as an offensive midfielder, contributing goals for her team.

Last season, Benthe played for Phoenix's U-18 first team, competing at the highest national level. At 16, she debuted for the women’s first team, which plays in the second-highest women’s division in the Netherlands (Overgangsklasse), even scoring in her first appearance.

This season Benthe will be playing for the 2nd Women's team while continuing to train with the women’s first team.
