Personal and academic information

Mendy graduated high school in May 2017 and immediately enrolled into the University of the Cumberlands (NAIA). She is currently in her senior year and is expected to graduate May,1st 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science, and a minor in restricted electives. 

 

She swam for UC all four years and is considering to use her extra year of eligibility pursuing her master’s degree in either Nutrition or Coaching.

 

Athletic information

 

Mendy’s freshmen year was her first year returning to the pool after a six-year break. Her freshmen year the main focus was getting back in shape, which followed with good results sophomore, junior, and senior year. She has earned multiple titles during her time at UC and is convinced that with the right coach there is still lots of room for improvement. 

 

Mendy can swim all strokes except for breaststroke but focused mainly on the butterfly and freestyle the past couple years. These are some of the accomplishments over the past 4 years:

Personal and academic information

Mendy is an eighteen year old girl who was born and raised in Lelystad, the Netherlands. She grew up in a small family with her mom, dad and older sister. She is a very independent and athletic individual that has experienced some rough events during her junior years.

 

at the age of 16 her dad passed away which understandably had a big impact on her life and her Swimming. Mendy and her dad had a very special bond and he drove her every day to the swimming pool.

 

Mendy is currently a senior in high school at middle level vocational education level with a focus on sport and PE. She is expected to graduate in May 2017. 

 

Mendy achieved a total score of 980 on her SAT and 79 on her TOEFL. 

 

Athletic information

 

Mendy is an allround swimmer that prefers freestyle and butterfly. In addition she can swim the backstroke and the breaststroke too. During her junior career she became Dutch junior campion on the 100m Fly when she was 14 years old and one year later she qualified for the European Youth Olympic Festival. 

 

Unfortunately, due to financial reasons Mendy couldn’t proceed with her swimming. In 2015 she picked her swimming up again and this year she qualified for 5 events at the Dutch national championships. Eventhough she didn’t swim at her best she is still happy with her development. Mendy is eager to keep developing herself in college.

Silke went to high school in Belgium until her sophomore year and after that she went to The Netherlands in order better combine her swimming with school. Graduated high school in June 2017 and immediately enrolled into Campbell university. Due to personal circumstances Silke returned to the Netherlands after 8 weeks and then enrolled into college in Eindhoven where she is majoring business. 

 

She has received her release letter and is looking forward to transfer to a US institution in the fall of 2018.

Hanna Van Horen is a 17-year old girl who grew up in Hofstade, a little town in East Flanders, Belgium. She is the oldest of three children; she has a sister and a brother.  In her free time, she loves to spend time with her friends and family, likes to read books and to ride a bike.

Hanna is currently in her senior year of high school and is expected to graduate in June of 2015. She has a Science-Modern Languages focus and has both sciences and languages as major subjects. She is scheduled to take the ACT in April and the TOEFL in February of 2015.

Athletic Information

Hanna has been swimming at swim club Neptunes since she was 5 years old and during her junior career she competed at many regional, national and open tournaments.

Hanna became champion of Flanders on the 200m backstroke and second on the 100m backstroke under 12 (2009). In 2013 she was third on the 100m freestyle (under 16) during the Flanders Speedo Cup, a competition where also a lot of European swimmers participate. Last year she won two bronze medals (200m freestyle and 50m butterfly) at the Belgian national Championships under 18 and she also competed at the Belgian open national championships.

Her favorite distances are: 100, 200 & 400 freesyle, 50 & 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. She is currently mainly focussing on 100 & 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.


Hanna trains 7 times a week for a total of 13 hours in the water and also goes to the gym 3 hours per week for injury prevention and power training.

Bart is a 16-year old boy who grew up together with his parents and younger brother and sister in Aalsmeer, the Netherlands. Bart has a passion for endurance sports and besides swimming he is also very interested in cycling and running. He even competed at many (1/8) triatlons. He also used to play water polo at a high level but due to his busy swim schedule he couldnt combine it anymore.

Bart is currently a senior in high school and is expected to graduate in June 2014. He is scheduled to take both his SAT and TOEFL in the Fall of 2014

Athletic Information

Since the age of 6 years Bart started with swimming, first recreational and later on competitive  at Oceanus, a swimming association at Aalsmeer. Bart swam his first national championships in 2008 when he was 11 years old, one year after that he became national champion on the 400m freestyle in his age group. Since that time Bart made it every year to the national championships. During the national championships long course (June 2014) Bart won a bronze medal in the 400m IM. Bart once participated at an International Swimming Festival in Aachen, he swam the 1500m freestyle. 

Bart sees himself as a mid-long distance swimmer and at the beginning of this season he transferred to De Dolfijn swim team in Amsterdam. He made this choice in order to have the possibility to train more frequently and with even more specialized trainers.

His goals are to reach as high as possible on the Dutch championships. Bart trains around nine and an half hour in the pool. Besides swimming he trains one hour in the gym and one hour dry training for core-stability. In the summer holiday Bart runs twice a week and he participates in open water swimming competitions.

Josha is a 17-year old boy who’s born and raised in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands with his father, mother, little brother and two dogs. He is a very dedicated swimmer and he wants to reach as high as possible. Besides swimming Josha trains in the gym with a personal trainer to become stronger and achieve better swim results. In the holidays Josha loves to travel and in his spare time he likes spend time with friends and family. 

 

Josha attends the Centre for Sports and Education (CSE) high school in Zwolle. This is officially the most sports orientated high school of The Netherlands and sports and school can ideally be combined. Josha is currently a senior and is expected to graduate in June of 2015. He is scheduled to take the SAT and the TOEFL in fall of 2014.   

 

Athletic Information

 

Josha started to learn swimming when he was 4 years old. When he was 6 years old he decided to become a member of the local swim Club and started to prepare for his first matches at the age of 9 years old. Josha swam his first national championships when he was 11 years old in his age group. From then on he swam several times at the national junior championships. 

 

When he was 15 years old, Josha decided to transfer to a different club in order to have better and more frequent practice to become a better swimmer. Since then his progression is noticeable and he qualified several times for the open national championships. Nowadays Josha is still progressing specially since he recently expanded his practice hours even more. At the moment he has 10 and a half hours of swim practice and 3 hours of practice in the gym.

 

Josha has swum international tournaments like the International Swim meeting in Berlin,Germany (two times), the FISEC games in Lisbon, Portugal, Valetta,Malta, the World Sports Festival in Vienna, Austria and more. Last year, Josha traveled to south-Spain for one and a half week of practicing.
