Kyra started running when she was 7 years old and was mainly running distances of 800 m till 5 km until the age of 15. Kyra is a very hard working athlete who always gives 100% in practice and loves to compete.

During her junior career she ran many national and international meets. In 2016 she made the decision to start focussing on the 400 and 800 m that year Kyra and her team became 3th at the 4x400 meter relay at the open national Dutch championships. In 2017 she became 8th on the 800 meter indoor nationals under 18 and she improved herself with almost 3 seconds this year (from 2.19.66 to 2.16.99). This time ranked her 24th at the under 18 nationally.

On the 400 m Kyra started the 2017 season with a time of 59.83 but rapidly improved herself to 58.09, which placed her 7th at the under 18 national ranking list. Later that year at the national Dutch championships she became 6th on the 400m. This year in February Kyra improved her PR to 57.89. In order to improve her 400m speed, Kyra also started running 200 meters and she even competed 2 times with a personal best of 26.35.

Kyra is currently in Australia and her new practice environment gave her an enormous boost and a higher technical quality to her training sessions. As a result of the increased practice, the coaching staff of Kyra is expecting her to improve her PB between 56 and 54 seconds during the 2018 season. In the next few weeks she competes at the state juniors, state open, nationals juniors and she is set on qualifying for the open national championships in Australia.

Kyra has ambitions to improve (mentally and physically) and to qualify for main international competitions after college.
