Personal and academic information

Izziël is an enterprising, competitive, sociable and sport loving 24-year-old individual from the Netherlands. Growing up with only a mother his older brother inspired him to start playing tennis at the age of 7. Tennis has played a big role in his life ever since. Being a ball boy for many years at a challenger tournament in his hometown The Hague, Izziël got inspired to reach a high level of tennis.

At the age of 16, he participated in an exchange with an American High School in Minneapolis. As part of that program he stayed with a host family for one week but because he liked The States so much they hosted him for an additional eight weeks in July and August, 2014. Till this day Izziël is still in touch with his host family on a regular basis. During his two-month stay Izziël participated in a tennis program for exceptional players (coached by Glenn Allsop 2014 USTA Northern Pro of the Year) in the Minneapolis area, in which he trained intensely for 10-plus hours per week in drills, 3 hours of agility, plus match play. He trained with and competed against some of the best junior tennis players in the state – and he thrived in that environment. His sportsmanship, enthusiasm and commitment to improvement was clearly evident.

In addition to being a great athlete he also excels in and outside of the class room. He graduated high school at one of the top schools of The Netherlands at the highest level (VWO) in 2016.

In the fall of 2016 Izziel decided to pursue his college tennis dream and enrolled into Midwestern State University in Texas. Unfortunately this was not the right fit for him and Izziël decided to go back to The Netherlands after one semester and enrolled into the University of Leiden (ranked 68th World University Rankings 2019) in the fall of 2017. Here Izziël earned his bachelor degree in economics, governance and management Summer 2020. In the fall semester of 2019, Izziel was in San Francisco for an internship at the Dutch Consulate, working at the economical department. It was his intention to enroll in a MBA program in Fall of 2020 but due to Covid related circumstances this didnt work out. He used this past year to gain work experience and is now eager to use his last 2 years of eligibility and pursue an MBA.

Athletic information

Izziël started playing tennis at the age of 7. During his junior career he played many tournaments and club competition. At the moment he has lost his UTR due to inactivity but his last rating was  9.79.

Izziël is a 5’10 ft right, two-handed backhand player and his biggest weapon is his strong forehand and athletic capability. He is an aggressive baseline player who is keen to go to the net. When the situation requires he also can be patient and he can alternate heavy topspin with a slice backhand or dropshot. In addition he has solid ground strokes, great footwork and is also physically very strong.

For years now Izziël has been training 10 hours per week, both tennis and physical/condition training. This season he plays both on Saturday and Sunday in two teams with really good results; improving every week.
