Personal and Academic Information

Ruben is an 18-year-old boy who was born and raised in Woerden, The Netherlands. He is an athletic, enthusiastic, social and hardworking individual who is interested in various sports, especially ball sports. In addition to tennis he played soccer for the highest junior teams of his club until the age of 14. He then decided to focus solely on tennis.

In June 2016 Ruben graduated from High school (HAVO level) in the following subjects: Dutch language, English language, physics, mathematics, chemistry, ICT and sport management. After graduation, he decided to take a gap year (2016-2017) and to obtain his tennis coaching license (Koninklijke Nederlandse Lawn Tennis Bond A-license). Ruben is scheduled to take the TOEFL on June 24th.

In addition to his extensive tennis practice to improve his own tennis skills, Ruben has been teaching tennis to adults three days a week during the first six months of 2017.

Being part of a community where tennis is an important part of life, really appeals to him and therefor he is very motivated to contribute to a US college tennis team.

Athletic information

Ruben started playing tennis when he was 8 years old and soon his talents were recognized. During his junior career he was selected for the regional team (a cooperation of many clubs in the region) and was successful in junior national tournaments. At the age of 15, Ruben started to play mainly open tournaments and has won 4 until this date.

In addition Ruben has played club team competition during spring and fall for past 7 years. Last year his team became champion of their division. Alongside his regular club trainings in Woerden, Ruben also trains at least 3 times a week at the Balance Tennis Academy (BTA Top tennis). In addition, he has strength and conditioning training twice a week.

People describe Ruben as a great team player with a positive attitude (both on and off court) and a winners’ mentality. He is a 5’8 ft tall right handed who likes to dominate from the baseline eith his steady groundstrokes. When the opportunity arises, he likes to attack the ball with spin and power. His two main weapons would be groundstrokes and fighting spirit.
