Personal and Academic information

Laia Charles is a 19-year-old girl from Lleida, Spain. She is spontaneous, motivated, and a happy person. She is always eager to learn new things and meet new people. In her spare time she likes to read and spend time with her friends. She is also hard-working and committed. She speaks Spanish, Catalan, English and French. 

Laia graduated high school in June 2014 from Lestonnac L’ensenyança a and enrolled into Nicholls State university in Fall 2014. She is currently a sophomore pursuing a degree in Mass Communications: Public Relations and plans to minor in Marketing. So far she has obtained 42 credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.4 Her GPA of last semester is 2.83. This spring semester she is enrolled into 15 credits and she is expected to have 57 credits after her Sophomore year.

Athletic Information

Laia started playing tennis at the age of 7. She started competing when she was 8, and played for Club Natació Lleida's team, her city's tennis club, until she left to study and play in the US. Her best national ranking in Spain was 120. She is now in her sophomore year at Nicholls State University and she is looking to transfer in the fall of 2016. She would like to transfer to another college to have a tennis team that is a better fit for her. 

Laia is right-handed and has a two handed-backhand. Her strengths are her backhand crosscourt and down the line, her serve and hitting angles. She is a baseline player who hits heavy ball from both sides, also agressive by hitting angles. Very competitivie player. She is not bad at the net but she could still improve her volleys. She has been playing on number 5 and number 6 spot on the line up. She also played doubles number 2 and number 3.

Record spring 2015 : 2-0 at no.6 singles and 2-0 at no.3 doubles

Freshman year team record: 21-4

Southland conference champions regular season, runner-up conference tournament.

This year she is playing no.6 singles (0-4 record so far) and no.2/3 doubles (0-2 record so far)
