Personal and academic information


Stijn is 17 years of age and lives in Arnhem, in The Netherlands. He comes from a very athletic family (soccer, handball) and he grew up with tennis and soccer fields on walking distance.


Stijn is a very friendly person with a strong personality and is eager to learn and develop himself. He recently stayed one week with friends of his parents in Ohio. During his stay he visited some universities with tennis programs and this got him really excited about college tennis. 


He is currently a senior in high school at highest level (VWO)  and is expected to graduate in June 2016. He is a good student and he chose to complete his degree in two profiles, Nature & Engineering and Nature & Health. 


Stijn considers college tennis as a wonderful possibility to further improve his tennis skills, in combination with a academic challenge in a new environment. 


Athletic information


Stijn has been playing tennis and soccer from 6 years of age.  Soon after being successful from the beginning he started to mainly focus on tennis. During his junior career he achieved a national junior top 50 ranking. A recent highlight in junior tennis (under 17) was the second place in the Dutch championship for club teams in 2014. In addition to junior tennis he also competed at open tournaments in which he won three open tournament in a row in the Summer of 2015.


Stijn is a tall, strong (6’3 ft, 176 lbs) right-handed player who loves to be aggressive at the baseline. When the situation requires he also can be patient and he can easily alternate heavy topspin with a slice backhand or dropshot. His biggest weapons are his serve and forehand. In addition he is mentally strong,  very motivated and has real fighting spirit. His coaches love to work with Stijn, and consider him a “fast learner”.

  • 6-3 6-2 win over Jordi Visser (ranked 330 in Dutch open ranking)
