Personal and Academic Information

 

Melody is an 18 year old girl who grew up in Bennekom, The Netherlands. She is a very social and enthusiastic person who is open minded and always anxious to learn. In addition to tennis she started ballet at the age of 3 until the age of 14 and took Taekwondo lessons until the age of 12. Moreover she likes to go to the cinema with her friends and likes to travel as often as possible.

 

Melody is in her senior year of high school at the highest level of education in The Netherlands (VWO) and he is expected to graduate in June 2016. She achieved a combined score of 900 on her SAT (she is retaking the SAT in November) on a 83 on her TOEFL.

 

Combining her passion tennis with obtaining a good education has been a dream for Melody and she hopes to enrol in the fall of 2016.

 

Athletic Information 

 

Melody started playing tennis at the age of six. During her junior career she played the national circuits and she has always been ranked top 20 nationally in her age group. Melody has won several tournaments and participated in various junior national championship tournaments. Her best performance was a semi final in the U16 draw and she reached the last 16 in the U18 draw this summer. 

 

In addition to the junior circuit, Melody also played the national open tournaments and achieved a highest open women’s singles ranking of 106 in October of 2014. She is currently ranked 168 in singles and 129 in doubles.

 

In the fall of 2010 Melody started to train at Bogtstra&Kempers Academy, which is one of the best Academies in the Netherlands. Her head coaches are former Davis Cup coach Tjerk Bogtstra and former ATP player Tom Kempers. 

 

Melody is a right-handed aggressive baseline player, who is not afraid of taking risks. She is a hard worker with very solid ground strokes and her biggest weapon is her forehand. In addition she has excellent footwork and a solid net game. In 2014 Melody played the 2nd highest level club competition in The Netherlands for her club Z.T.C. Shot and  she played first division this year.
