Personal and Academic Information

Marit is a 16 year old girl that lives together with her family in Leiderdorp, The Netherlands. She is a very athletic girl with exceptional motor skills from an early age on, demonstrated (at just six years of age) by riding a unicycle and jumping rope on a ball larger than herself as part of a circus act.

Beside tennis she enjoys an occasional game of soccer, riding her longboard with friends or training her Border collie, Lexie, in agility. Marit also volunteers at her tennis club during events by organizing youth club championships and helping smaller kids with playing and counting. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to organize her own small business (stringing rackets, delivering weekly newspapers and babysitting), as she is fond of gadgets like smart phones and smart watches.

Marit is currently in her senior year of high school (diploma of higher general secondary education) holding a 3.6 GPA. Out of approximately 130 students she ranks in the top 3 of her school at her age level and ranks number 1 in the technical subjects (mathematics, physics and chemistry).

It is Marit's dream to play college tennis in the USA so she can combine playing tennis at a high level while earning a bachelor degree in math and science.

Athletic Information

Marit is an aggressive tennis player that waits for the best moment to attack and win the point. Apart from her perseverance and a drive to win, her weapons on the court are her inside-out forehand and great footwork.

During her junior career Marit played the national ranked junior tournaments until the age of 14. After that she switched clubs (in order to have more and better training partners) and her coach indicated it was better for her development to play open women’s tournaments in the category 3, 4 and 5.

Since then she has won 8 singles tournaments (2 in cat. 3, 3 in cat 4 and 3 in cat. 5) and she became champion of the district Leiden. Due to this success she improved her rating within 1.5 years from 6 to 4. The goal for this year is to become a rating 3 and to get a National open women’s ranking.

Marit’s best achievements over the last two years:

  • First place in the Leiden District Youth Championship in 2014 and second place in 2013.
  • First place open mixed doubles team competition in 2014 and second place in 2013 (Marit won the majority of her matches).
