Personal and Academic information


Sunaina Chaigneau was born in Leiden and grew up in Leiderdorp, in The Netherlands. She is passionate, ambitious and a driven athlete who loves to compete. In addition to soccer, Sunaina competed in the Dutch National Judo League and won many International tournaments.


Besides her athletic eagerness, Sunaina makes a good student as well. She graduated high school (HAVO level) in June 2019. Sunaina excels in Chemistry, Biology and speaks, besides Dutch, English and Spanish. Moreover, she also obtained a highly valued and respected Spanish language certificate at the Instituto Cervantes. This language course is taught at only two high schools in The Netherlands where only highly motivated students with good grades in the ordinary Spanish may attend. Sunaina has a great passion for Marine Life, Psychology and Sociology.


After graduating she decided to take a gap year and then enrolled into ASA Miami in August 2020. She completed an ESL course but d ue to Covid the soccer team was being cancelled and is now looking to transfer to another university to start her college soccer career.


Athletic achievements


Sunaina started playing soccer at her local club RCL at the age of 7. During her junior career she always played in the highest teams of her age group playing in the 1st regional league. Most of the seasons she scored 20+ goals in addition to many assists.


At the age of 15 she competed in the girls 1st U-19 team (2nd Regional league) where Sunaina managed to score 31 goals along with 22 assists in 25 games and was titled as top-scorer in the competition.After playing two successful seasons in the girls U-19, Sunaina started playing for  the first Women‚Äôs soccer team that competed in the ‚ÄúHoofdklasse‚ÄĚ. The 2019/2020 season they were leading the competition and would have been champions until Covid-19 put an end to this adventure.

Sunaina is a very fast forward that can also be used as a center mid. Her strong points are her outstanding technique, good control of the ball and cross-balls and through passes to the forwards have become her trademark. In addition to giving many assists she is also a great finisher, being top scorer of her team almost every season. Her Judo experience at a high level enabled her to appear more physical on the soccer field.
