Personal and Academic Information

Lucas is eighteen years old and comes from Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. Shortly after he was born he moved with his family to the United States where they lived for a number of years in the New York area.

Lucas is always busy playing sports. When he was young he practiced judo and sailing and in the summer he loves to play tennis and a little bit of golf. Every winter he goes to the Alps to snowboard. For his graduation project he has chosen the topic: “How to jump the highest on a Snowboard”. For this project he did scientific research and developed a formula to calculate the most effective way to jump as high as possible.

In addition Lucas has played the piano for a number of years and then switched to the electric guitar. Lucas has preformed several times both in and out of school with several different bands.

Another great passion of Lucas is traveling. Together with his family he has seen a lot of the world and he would love to travel a lot more. He has been to Laos, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Costa Rica, and Tanzania and a large number of other countries. He has also travelled in the United States, from Maine to Minnesota. In Tanzania he climbed the Kilimanjaro with his mother, father and two brothers. Climbing the Kilimanjaro is very hard because of the altitude. In particular the final stretch to reach the top requires stamina and perseverance, both of which Lucas has a lot of.   He was able to reach the summit at daybreak to see the sun rise over beautiful Africa.

Lucas is currently a senior at the Vossius Gymnasium (top 5 ranked high school in the province of North-Holland)  in Amsterdam holding a GPA of 3.3. For his A-Levels or AP Courses he takes the required courses of Dutch, English and Latin. In addition he has chosen the following courses: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics and the highest level of Math.  He has also taken courses in Greek, History, French, German and Geography. Lucas has taken the SAT and his score was 660 for math, 530 for critical reading and 500 for writing.

Athletic Information

Lucas started playing soccer at The Amsterdam Football Club (AFC ) when he was 5 years old and he has been a member for 13 years now. AFC is the best amateur football club in the Netherlands and the youth program has won the award of best youth program in the Netherlands for the last four years.

During his junior career, Lucas competed in the highest youth teams and has played against several professional clubs like Ajax and Feyenoord. He has also has played matches against teams from other countries like Germany.

Lucas is a 6’1, 160 lbs central defender who is quick, agile, has a strong tackle and a very good pass. He is versatile so he is also used as a right wing defender or midfield player or even center forward in “ emergency situations”.

He is a real team player and he is in charge of organizing his defense. When he gets a chance he goes forward to use his heading ability.  He is great in the air and almost always wins the heading battles from the opponent’s center forwards even if they are a lot taller.  Lucas can’t stand to lose, he always wants to win and will do anything he can to reach his goal.
