Personal Information

Mathieu Debons is a 18-year old soccer player who lives in Switzerland and is currently playing for club FC Sion U21.  Mathieu started playing soccer at a very young age of 5. Although his dream is to be a professional soccer player, school is also very important for him.

Mathieu is hardworking, motivated and serious about soccer. For him, studying in a foreign country represents a great opportunity and an exceptional challenge with a chance of learning and experiencing something truly unique. In Europe, it's almost impossible to combine college education with sports on a high competitive level and he absolutely wants to grasp this opportunity in the U.S. 

Athletic Information

He started his soccer career at Savièse, a club where he lives, at the age of 6. When he was 13 years old he has been interested by the FC Sion. He has evolved in U15, U16, U18 and now he is playing for FC Sion U21. While the season 2009-2010, his team has won the championship “1re Ligue” of Switzerland.

Mathieu is left-footed and his top positions are left defender, but he also can play rear-central position or right defender. His best abilities are his speed, his head and his endurance.

Academic Information

Mathieu has finished his high school in June 2011. To access at the HES-SO (kind of university in Switzerland), he must accomplish an internship in a company. He will do it this year.

Studying in the US would be an great experience for him, learn a new language. Mathieu is not clear about which direction to take, but he has many ideas, in economy, architecture or computer.

Mathieu will be taking the SAT and TOEFL in October and November 2011. Upon completion of these exams, he will be eligible to compete in both NCAA and NAIA.
