Personal and academic information

Loïs is an 18-year-old young woman who is born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. When she was 16 years old Loïs and her family moved to Maastricht, in the southern part of The Netherlands. She is an ambitious and diligent individual who knows exactly what she wants in life and does everything she can to achieve her goals.

In addition to being an high level athlete Lois is also a good student. Currently she is in her senior year of high school in the Netherlands at the highest level (Atheneum). Atheneum stands for the Dutch educational courses aimed at preparation for scientific education at a university. She will graduate in the subjects; English, French, Dutch, Biology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Cultural and artistic education. Her intended college degree options concern the subjects; biology, chemistry, and physics. Lois scored a 92 on her TOEFL and is scheduled for the ACT in February.

In the Netherlands, it is almost impossible to combine both reining and university on the highest level. That is why Loïs wants to complete her degree in America while competing at the highest level of reining and study at the highest level of the university.

Athletic information

Lois started riding horses when she was 7 years old. The first five years she performed dressage. At the age of 13 she discovered the reining sport during a holiday in Italy. Lois was overwhelmed about the harmony between horse and rider and the way of ÔÇśtotal ridingÔÇÖ and she knew this is what she wanted to do. Back in the Netherlands she quit dressage and concentrated on the reining sport.

Lois was soon elected to the youth team of the Double R Ranch (near Amsterdam) and she participated in several events. In May 2015 Lois started to train and ride a young horse coached by Roy van der Hoeven (a well known Dutch reining trainer). In August 2016 Lo├»s moved to the Southern part of the Netherlands and acquired her own horse. This decision was made because Lo├»s wanted to improve and grow in the reining sport and participate in more serious competitions. From then she participated in several WRAN, NRHA, DLW, and Appaloosa reining competitions. Lois finished first, second and third among the youth reiners during several competitions and is now part of the DRHA youth riders.

During her reining Career, Lo├»s has been coached by Roy van der Hoeven, Jimmy van der Hoeven, and J├╝rgen Pouls.  Besides reining, Lois has also performed several times in ranch riding, horsemanship and in showmanship at halter.

Loïs is an ambitious and talented horsewoman who aims to work in perfect harmony with the horse and strives to work as a team during training and competitions. She has a top sport status at her high school what gives her the possibility to train optimally and compete at all the important events.

As soon as reining will be recognized as an Olympic sport, she definitely has the ambition to compete and win! She is known for her great discipline and work ethic. She is always striving for perfection, both in sports and school.
