Personal and Academic Information

 

Lieke is a 17-year-old girl who lives with her father (manager in an Amsterdam hospital) and her mother (pediatrician at the Amsterdam University Medical Center) in Naarden, The Netherlands. She has an older sister, Anne Marijn, who studies at the University of Amsterdam. As the daughter of a father who is a passionate field hockey player and a mother who played USA college tennis and with a sister who played field hockey in the USA, Lieke always dreamed about studying and playing field hockey in the United States. 

 

Lieke is a cheerful, responsible, has a broad interest and has a strong sense of justice. Besides playing field hockey, Lieke loves to meet up with her friends, take photographs (she was nominated for the Frans Lanting WNF photo award), travel, spend time with her family, play the piano and she loves windsurfing.

 

Lieke is also committed to her local community. She has organized the student election at her high school, she tutors younger students and she works as a babysitter in her neighborhood. 

In addition, Lieke is an excellent student holding a 3.7 GPA at the highest high school level in the Netherlands (VWO) and is expected to graduate in June 2020. She has both a science/engineering as well as a science/health profile. She will graduate in the subjects: English, Dutch, French, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Economics.

 

In addition to the compulsory subjects at school, she has taken History as an extra subject for one year and she has participated in multiple programs of excellence. In the first three years of her high school career she has also followed a special program called 'Arts and Media’. 

 

Athletic Information

 

Lieke has been playing field hockey at HC Naarden throughout her whole career, starting when she was four years old. In 2017 she and her team became champion of the first division both field as well as indoor. Last season they won the 3rd division and this season she is playing 1st division for the U-19 team

 

Lieke is a dynamic and strong midfielder with a good overview and who can play every position in the midfield. She is a fast runner and she often uses her speed to create open spaces in the field. She is also the injector of the penalty corners. She has a great pass and she has a good overview. In addition, she has a strong tackle back, she is a real team player and she never gives up.
