Personal and academic information

Madelief was born and raised in Utrecht, the Netherlands, where she lives with her parents and younger sister. Madelief is a happy, social individual who comes from an athletic family. Her mother practices ballet while her father likes playing field hockey, squash and is a competitive cyclist. Madelief’s two year younger sister, Elsemijn, is also a very fanatic field hockey player.


In addition to playing Madelief has also coached  juniors and she coached at a junior field hockey camp last summer.


She is currently a senior in high school (HAVO level) and is expected to graduate in June 2017. with the subjects: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, Dutch, English and German. 


Madelief’s ambitions for going abroad and playing hockey are highly encouraged by her parents, especially by her father who previously worked three years in Canada.


Athletic information


Madelief started playing field hockey for hockey club Kampong at the age of 6. With 3232 members and nine hockey-fields, Kampong is the largest field hockey club of the Netherlands. Madelief’s age -group (15-17 years) contains 10 teams. The first three teams are selection teams which means that coaches and trainers pay extra attention to those teams.


Madelief is a dynamic and energetic inner forward who can also play as a midfielder if the situation requires. She has great technical skills and tactical insight.


During her junior career Madelief was u-12 indoor champion in the 3rd division. One year later, she was scouted by the coach from the u-14 second team where she received a lot of personal attention which helped her to improve her skills. In 2012, at the National Sport camp, Madelief was awarded and asked to join the National Championship technical skills camp (NK Hockey techniek kampen) where she accompanied her younger sister who was selected for the third time. Madelief is currently playing with her u-17 team in the first division.


Aside from her training program and matches, she has also joined a lot of field hockey camps, such as Nationale Sport kampen (national sport camps) and Penasj.
