Personal and Academic Information

Elke, a native from Badhoevedorp, The Netherlands, grew up as the youngest in a family of six. She has been involved in sports ever since she was little. Although hockey is her favorite sport, she was also active in other sports, such as tennis, which she played alongside hockey for several years. Elke chose eventually to focus on field hockey because she is fundamentally a team player and prefers team sports.

Aside from playing hockey Elke also taught hockey lessons to young girls. She has obtained her coach's certificate and has been a coach for 4 years now.

Elke attends the highest level of high school in the Netherlands and she will graduate in June of 2012. She is scheduled to take both her SAT and TOEFL exams in the fall of 2011. Upon completion of these exams, she will be eligible to compete in the NCAA. Elke's dream is now to combine field hockey and studying in the USA.

Athletic Information

Elke started her field hockey career at the age of 6 for Xenios where she played untill she was 16 years old. In her last year she was selected to play for the first womens team in which she was very successful. In order to keep developing as a player Elke moved to the field hockey club Hurley in Amsterdam where she played for the top junior team. This year she is selected to play in the 2nd womens team of Hurley that plays in the "reserve hoofdklasse".

Elke has always played in the top teams of her hockey club. She has always enjoyed being dedicated to hockey, spending 4 days a week on the field and playing more games over the weekend. Elke has traveled through the whole country with her team while competing at the highest level in the Netherlands. Elke's biggest strength is her speed and technique; she is very unpredictable for a defender

In order to improve her technique even more, Elke also plays indoor Hockey with Hurley.
