Simcha is a 17-year-old girl who lives together with her family, in Amstelveen, a village next to Amsterdam in The Netherlands. Simcha comes from an athletic family, she has two older brothers who are both playing for the First Men’s Team of Pinoké as well as playing for the Dutch National (junior) Hockey Team, her father is playing soccer and tennis and her mother is a runner, cyclist as well as swimmer.

 

Simcha is a very social, pro-active, enthusiastic high school girl with a creative mind. In addition to her field hockey skills she loves board surfing, tennis and kick boxing and is a very experienced skier. Simcha loves to organise activities with her school friends and/or teammates and she is a beloved baby-sitter in her neighborhood. Furthermore Simcha is a dedicated hockey coach at Pinoké of kids age 6+ since she was 12 years old already.

 

Simcha is biking every day to her high school (HAVO level) at ‘Fons Vitae Lyceum” in Amsterdam where she is at senior level and will graduate in the following subjects: Dutch language, English language, mathematics, biology, science, physics and computer science.  She is scheduled to take both SAT as well as TOEFL in the spring of 2018.

Simcha started to play field hockey for Pinoké at the age of 6. During her junior career Simcha played for the second or third junior teams in her age group and the last two years she has played for the 2nd team, last year at topklasse level and this year sub topklasse level.

 

Simcha is a strong, fast and consistent offensive defender with great technical skills who is hard to pass. She plays both as a central back and as a right back but if the situation requires she can play at every position in the defense. She has a strong tackle back, a good sense of positioning and she is known for her great passing that often brings the forwards into striking position. Simcha is a natural leader and during the indoor hockey season she is the captain of her team.

 

During an offensive penalty corner she is the injector and with the defensive penalty corner she is assisting the goalkeeper on the line.

Athletic information

When Laura was 6 years old she started playing field hockey at one of the biggest clubs in the Netherlands, HDM. HDM is known for sports education for juniors with professional trainers. The trainers educate the players specifically on the tactics of the game and how to coach each other. 

During her junior career Laura always played in the highest teams in her age group. The past 4 years she played at the highest junior level (landelijk) in the Netherlands. 

Laura is strong technical midfielder with great tactical understanding which she uses to coach her teammates. She positions herself well, has great passing skills and often creates offensive opportunities for the strikers. In addition she is a real team player and very strong in a one-on-one duel, offensively and defensively.

Carla is a 18-year-old girl lives together with her brother and parents in Ulm, Germany. She can be described as a very athletic girl and in addition to playing field hockey she is also an excellent skier.

Carla is a center midfielder with great technical skills and a good understanding of the game. She  is a real team player with strong leadership skills and is able to organize and coordinate the team. In addition she is physically very strong and has a good passing game. If the situation requires she is very capable to play defense as well. 

 

During her junior career Carla has always played in the highest teams of SSV ULM 1846 in her age group. In 2012 Carla was invited to play for the regional Baden-Würtemberg squad with the best juniors in the region where she played for 2 years. In the season of 2015/2016 Carla made the move from juniors to adults and started to play for the first women's team of SSV ULM 1846 that competes in the Oberliga. She quickly obtained a starting position in the midfield and she currently is still a strong holder for the team.

Djuna started to play field hockey for hockey club AH&BC at the age of 6. During her junior career Djuna has always played for the highest junior team in her age group. Now as a first year as senior Djuna decided to switch clubs and she is currently playing as a starter for the first women’s team of Xenios that plays in the first division in the Netherlands.

Jet is born and raised in Arnhem, The Netherlands, together with her parents and three older brothers. Her two oldest brothers are currently studying in Rotterdam and Groningen, where they also play field hockey.

Athletic information

Jet has been playing field hockey for hockey club Upward since the age of 5 and chose to become a goalkeeper at the age of 10. During her junior career she has always played in the highest junior teams. She has played at the second highest level in the Netherlands (Super B) U-16 and they ended in second place. This year she is expected to qualify for either the highest level (Landelijk) or second highest (Super A) with her U-18 team.

Jet also really enjoys indoor hockey and she and her U-16 team ended in second place in a tournament in which some of the best junior teams of The Netherlands competed.

Jet is a very athletic and flexible goalkeeper with good footwork and excellent reflexes. She is strong in 1 vs 1 situations, penalty corners and balls from the shooting circle. She has good understanding of the game and is vocally strong with organizing her defense. She is a real committed team player that is mentally very strong.

Iza Bo is born in Blaricum, The Netherlands, on the 9th of July 2000. Since she was 6 years old, she insisted to be called Bo and this small change says a lot about her personality: Bo fitted her life and attitude much better as in her eyes it felt stronger, less girly and more athletic. 

Bo lives with both parents Elbert and Gertrude and her younger sister Lola in Weesp. Their house is located on the riverside which allowed her to have an active outdoor childhood with lots of swimming and ice-skating. Her personality can be described as ambitious, goal-getter, focused, self-starter, optimistic, energetic, loyal, team-player, committed and modest. 

Both of her parents having international jobs and as a result she was introduced to traveling and many cultures around the world. This fueled her ambition to exploit opportunities abroad. 

Bo is currently in her senior year of high school at the highest level (pre-university education) and is expected to graduate in June 2018.  She is scheduled to take the ACT-test and TOEFL-test in October 2017. 

In addition to school and field hockey, Bo is curious to experience many different things. She played keys and electrical beats in a band, wrote and performed her own songs on piano, worked at Unicef The Hague and works at a restaurant.

 

Athletic information: 

Bo started to play field hockey at the local hockey club MHC Weesp at the age of 5. During her junior career Bo played an important role as central key player in the highest junior teams. At the age of 10, Bo was scouted for The Roelant Oltmans Hockey Academy as the first player from MHC Weesp. This gave her the opportunity to have an additional weekly training at Laren with other talents from the central Holland region. During this time she was approached by several well-known clubs. However, her sense of loyalty combined with her important role in her team made her stay. 

At the age of 14, Bo made her debut in the first women’s team of MHC Weesp and she has been playing there in addition to the highest junior team. This year the highest junior team is expected to qualify for Super A (2nd highest league). Playing for both the junior and first senior team results in a 5 to 6 day per week hockey schedule. In addition, Bo also participated in a summer hockey school in England in 2014. 

Bo is a creative forward oriented pivoting midfielder who is very technical. Her speed, endurance and intuitive understanding of the game and her quick-learning ability make her stand out. As a result of her leadership capabilities she was elected as captain of her team.

Florien is a social, serious, hardworking, to the point and neighborly girl with an enormous amount of perseverance and willpower. Since Florien was little she always wanted to study abroad and especially in the United States. This comes from her parents, her mother studied a couple months in England and her father studied for one year in Michigan.

Florien started to play field hockey for field hockeyclub HC Houten at the age of six. After one year she moved to Delden and started playing for field hockey club HC Twente and has been playing there ever since. 

 

During her junior career Florien has always played in the varsity teams. This year Florien plays in the highest junior team (U-18). The last few years Florien also trains and plays with the first women’s team.

 

Florien is a fast, dynamic and especially a strong defender who can also play midfield when needed. She has an enormously strong pass and her specialty is defending a penalty corner. She is the first one to walk out of the goal and is one of the fastest of her team.

Madelief was born and raised in Utrecht, the Netherlands, where she lives with her parents and younger sister. Madelief is a happy, social individual who comes from an athletic family. Athletic information

 

Madelief started playing field hockey for hockey club Kampong at the age of 6. With 3232 members and nine hockey-fields, Kampong is the largest field hockey club of the Netherlands. Madelief’s age -group (15-17 years) contains 10 teams. The first three teams are selection teams which means that coaches and trainers pay extra attention to those teams.

 

Madelief is a dynamic and energetic inner forward who can also play as a midfielder if the situation requires. She has great technical skills and tactical insight.

 

During her junior career Madelief was u-12 indoor champion in the 3rd division. One year later, she was scouted by the coach from the u-14 second team where she received a lot of personal attention which helped her to improve her skills. In 2012, at the National Sport camp, Madelief was awarded and asked to join the National Championship technical skills camp (NK Hockey techniek kampen) where she accompanied her younger sister who was selected for the third time. Madelief is currently playing with her u-17 team in the first division.

 

Aside from her training program and matches, she has also joined a lot of field hockey camps, such as Nationale Sport kampen (national sport camps) and Penasj.

Athletic Information

Anne started to play field hockey at the age of five at her local club MHCO. During her junior career she has always played for the highest junior teams and was coached by Irene Hendriks who is a Olympic champion and former coach of Croatia Tomislav Jamicic. Anne was also selected to try out for the district team of East Netherlands under 16.

The recent years Anne is playing for the first women's team of HC Upward at the second highest level in the Dutch Hockey League. 

Anne is a technically and tactically very skilled forward who can also play at the midfield position. Her strongest asset is giving speed to the game and increasing the energy level of the team. Lotte was born in Chêne-Bougeries in Switzerland where she lived for a few months before moving to The Netherlands together with her parents and her elder siblings Gijs and Mare. Lotte currently lives in Vreeland, a village near Amsterdam.

Lotte likes doing other sports and before playing field hockey she did gymnastics and acrobatics. She also played tennis for a couple of years at a local tennis club where she won twice the championships under 12.  In addition she coached juniors(8 years old) for several years at the local hockey club.

Lotte achieved a composite score of 29 on her ACT and is scheduled to take the TOEFL in fall of 2016.

Athletic information:

Lotte started playing field hockey at the local club of Loenen at the age of 6.  Quickly her talents were recognized and she was selected to play for the district team of central Netherlands. In 2011 she switched to hockey club Pinoké in Amsterdam to play hockey at the highest possible level.

Every year Lotte and her team at Pinoké have been competing for the national championships and in 2014 they became Dutch national champions under 16. In other years they finished between 2nd and 4th place. In 2014 Lotte was selected for a short period of time for the Dutch national team under 16. Last season Lotte practiced with the first women’s team of Pinoké, which competes at the highest Dutch national level (hoofdklasse). This season she will keep practicing with the first women's team and is expected to make her debut shortly.

Lotte is an all-round midfielder who also feels comfortable playing defense as well. She is a very technical player that has great passing, very good scoop and intercepts a lot. In addition she has excellent overview and tactical capabilities.

Personal and academic information

Aerin Kolfoort grew up with her parents and older brother in a small town near the government city of The Hague, The Netherlands. She comes from a family where sports and athletics are at the very centre of the way she was raised. As the child of a 2nd dan Judoka and osteopath as mum and a marathon finisher and police officer as a father, Aerin has always been urged to try new sports and make the very best out of it. 

In addition to field hockey she did gymnastics and ski racing at a high level. Starting with gymnastic from a very young age she became a strong and flexible little girl. When she started ski racing she put these skills to use and with success: finishing 5th in her age group at the national championship was a reward for all her efforts. 

Aerin always has been a girl with a strong will and who is very creative. She graduated high school at The Hague Montessori Lyceum in June 2016. This school allowed her to explore her creative side as she took a special interest in the arts during freshman and sophomore years. She graduated with an Economics and Society profile and chose: Geography, Economics, French, English, Dutch, Maths, History and PE.

She has a wide range of interest but none as big as sports, field hockey in particular of course. Therefor she has decided that before coming to the US she would like to start as a freshman at the The Hague Academy for Physical Education (Haagse Acedemie voor Lichamelijke Opvoeding). During the selection process she passed with flying colors and ranked amongst the highest of applicants. Aerin acheived a score of 90 on the TOEFL test.

Athletic information 

Aerin started playing field hockey at the age of 8 at hockey club HDS and her skills immediately were recognized. Quickly her club decided to let her play for the highest team of her age group and she has been valid asset for the highest team all throughout her junior career. 

Aerin is a defender that can also play as a midfielder. She is known for her clean passing skills, her eye for detail and her all or nothing mentality. She is an intelligent player that can control and set up a play because of her insight in the game. In addition she is a devoted team player and she has been captain in most of her teams. Even though Aerin is not the tallest she is physically very strong and she likes to take on the tallest girls and the biggest challenges in the field. She already has experience in playing with the first women's team and since she is handling the game at a highly physical level, Aerinis asked to join the first women's team fulltime next season (1 year early as she is still a junior).

In June of this year she played a friendly match with her team against Middlebury College (NCAA div 3) and won 8-2.

Frederique was born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, with her parents and two younger brothers. As soon as she could talk she started to call herself Kiki and so did the rest of the world. Kiki’s father was born in the US and as soon as the youngest kid was old enough the family started exploring different states. Kiki always said she’d love to study and live in the US when she is old enough.

 

Kiki comes from a very athletic family, all five play field hockey, tennis and love to sail and ski. Kiki started her hockey career at HIC (Hockey Ignatius College) in Amstelveen at the age of 5. She is a multi functional central midfielder who can be used for multiple positions in the field. Kiki has a great pass, good overview/tactical skills and strong backhand. She is the hitter with the offensive penalty corner and a left post with a defensive penalty corner.

 

During her junior career Kiki always played for the first team in her age group but she also trained regularly with the first team of an age group higher. At the age of 12 she was also selected to participate in the district team which selects the best 16 players of the greater Amsterdam area. At the age of 16, Kiki transferred to another team in Amsterdam, Athena, with which she has played at a higher competition level. Minke started playing field hockey at the age of 6 and during her junior career she has always played for the highest teams of Upward, often an age group higher. Her club Upward has great facilities including an Olympic "blue" pitch and a World Championships "green" pitch and the Dutch national teams practice weekly there when preparing for an upcoming championship.

 

In 2014 Minke won the district championship and reached the third place in the National Talent Cup. Last year she played the finals of the national league under 16 (Super B). Minke is currently playing for the highest under 18 team and is playing with her team in the highest national league (Landelijk). In addition to her junior team she has also been playing for the first women’s team of Upward since the age of 16. This team competes at the top of the first league and played the national play offs twice during the last 3 years. 

 

Minke is a very skilled all-round field hockey player who started as a striker and gradually developed into a defender with offensive skills. Turnovers after interception are her specialty and she has great technical skills. In the first women’s team she is frequently used as a striker.

 

Minke is responsible for penalty shots, penalty corners (including drag-flick) and shootouts. She has a scoop over 75 feet allowing the team to handle full press by the opponent. Minke also acts as a defender in the defense of a penalty corner. If the situation requires it Minke can replace the regular goalkeeper as a flying goalkeeper. 

 

Minke loves to play indoor hockey. This winter she reached the last four of the District with her under 18 team. She plays for the first women’s indoor team as well that competes at the second highest national level.

Doris was born in Hong Kong and moved to China when she was six months old. At the age of three she returned to The Netherlands. Two years later she moved with her family to Accra, Ghana, were she lived the next 3 years. In Accra Doris attended the Lincoln Community School, an international school, with all classes in English. It was at the Lincoln school that Doris got exposed to all kind of people with different backgrounds, home countries, habits and attitudes. She adored living in such an international environment and loved making friends from all these different countries. 

Besides her hockey skills she has a great ambition to get high grades. She is currently in her junior year at the highest level of high school in the Netherlands (VWO level) and she is expected to graduate in June 2016. Her subjects are: Mathematics, Economics, Business, History, English, Dutch, Spanish and French. Doris scored a 1030 on her SAT and a 98 on her TOEFL.

Nina started playing hockey at field hockey club Hattem when she was six years old. During her junior career she was always playing in the first team of a higher age category.  At the age of 14, she was already playing in the A1 (under 18) and when she was 15 she was also playing for the first women’s team. In order to keep developing her game and to play hockey at the highest national level Nina changed clubs and went to play hockey for the first team A1 in Zwolle. 

Nina sticks out as a real team player, works hard and is always stimulating her teammates in a positive way. In the field Nina is known for her good overview and strong passes/assists. Her technical skills are outstanding and as defensive midfielder she is multi-usable in the field. Illona Hartman comes from a very sportive family and has always lived in a small town (near Haarlem and Amsterdam) named Velserbroek. Illona is a very social and chatty girl who enjoys having lots of people around her. She loves doing activities with her friends and is very enthusiastic too when it comes to planning those activities. Besides Field hockey, Illona played several sports including Gymnastics, track and tennis.

 

Travelling has also been a passion of her as well. Illona feels exploring the world can offer her a lot and she currently did a volunteer trip in the summer of 2014. She went to a preschool for vulnerable children in Swaziland (Africa) where she was teaching basic English and mathematics.

 

Illona is a very smart student who graduated the highest level of high school in The Netherlands ("Gymnasium") with a GPA of 3.3 in June 2013. Thanks to her high marks in mathematics and biology she was tutoring other students in these subjects. She also participated in various mathematics and biology competitions over the past few years.

 

She is currently enrolled as a freshman at the Technical University of Eindhoven studying Architecture and building environment and she lives in a student housing in Eindhoven. Illona started her field hockey career at HC Haarlem and during her junior career she played for the first girls team at “topklasse” level. At this moment she is playing in the second women’s team of a new, more professional club in Bloemendaal, MHC HBS. Here she is playing at the ‘reserve eerste klasse/reserve overgangsklasse’ level.

 

Because of her study in the south of the Netherlands she currently plays field hockey four times a week. Two times with her own team (HBS) in the weekends and two times during the week in Eindhoven at HC Eindhoven. This team is playing at the 'reserve hoofdklasse' level, the highest level in the Netherlands.  

 

Illona has played different international tournaments against teams from England, Germany and the national team of South-Africa. She has also played in the school team for Mendel college, ever since she became a student there. 

 

Illona is a very fast midfielder who is very hard to pass and the percentage of her losing the ball is very low. Thanks to her speed she is often involved in the attack and she gives a lot of assists, which frequently result in a goal. Her speed is also a good use for the defense penalty corner, namely as a first runner/outflow. She is a very dedicated team player and someone who can really support and lead other players. Aurelia Meijer  is a 17-year old girl who is born in South-Africa and raised in The Netherlands together with her sister and  two brothers. She moved from Durban (SA) to Breda (NL) when she was 3 and her family moved to Hattem, a small village next to Zwolle when she was 10 years old

 

Aurelia is a natural athletic person and she played many different sports such as tennis and excelled in all of them. As she preferred hockey she chose to focus on field hockey and she strives now to unlock all her hockey potential to reach for the best.

 

Aurelia is now in her senior year of high school of the highest high school level in the Netherlands (VWO), and she is expected to graduate in Spring of 2015. She has a great interest in subjects as mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and science, but also the languages as Latin, Spanish and English. She is scheduled to take the TOEFL in the fall of 2014. 

 

Besides attending school lessons, Aurelia is also quaestor (financial responsible) of the school board that organize school events. She also attended several exchange programs, for example to Romania. 

 

Her goal is now to further develop her hockey skills while representing her college and to obtain a bachelor degree. 

 

Athletic Information

 

Aurelia started to play hockey when she was 6 years old and soon her talents were recognized. During her junior career Aurelia was placed in older aged teams and when she was 13 she was already playing for the A1, the highest youth team under 18.  Aurelia also represented the regional teams of the Dutch hockey Federation. At the age of 15 Aurelia transferred to HCZ in Zwolle to further develop her hockey skills and to play at a highest level.  

 

At the age of 16 she was selected for the highest women’s team of Zwolle that plays in the Overgangsklasse (the second highest league). She now is a starting forward in the first women’s team but can also play right or centre midfield.

 

The combination of her physical strength, speed and technical skills make her strong at the ball. She is a player that often creates forward opportunities and is known for her strong assists. She has a good overview, reads the game well, wins most of the one to one duels and passes easily. Aurelia is a real team player with the right winners mentality – she let her teams play better - and adds extra value through her individual talent.

Emma is a 16-year-old girl, who lives in Naarden, which is a town 20 km from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She has two little brothers and comes from a very sportive family. Besides field hockey, Emma loves music, playing soccer and being with her friends. 

 

Emma has a lot of perseverance, also in school. Emma is in her senior year of high school (VWO, the highest level in The Netherlands), holding a 3.6 GPA, and is expected to graduate in June 2015. Her subjects are: biology, science, mathematics, physics, German, English, Dutch and Greek. Emma is also doing an excellence program for the sciences. In addition Emma participated in multiple exchange programs, one with Poland and one with Germany. Besides her native language (Dutch) she speaks German and English fluently.

Emma started playing field hockey at the age of 6 at the Almeerse Hockey Club until she was 11. Then she moved to Naarden and she is now playing for Hockey Club Naarden for almost 5 years. Emma has always been playing as midfielder at the highest teams of both clubs.  She currently captain of her team and one of the key players playing at the 2nd highest junior level in The Netherlands.

 

In 2013, Emma was trained by Allison Annan (coach from the Dutch National Team and best player of the world in 1998 and 2000) and Leiah Brigitha (player from the Dutch National Team). Next year she will be trained and coached by Kenny Bain (Scottish international), who is also willing to give a reference about Emma’s hockey skills.

Puck, a native from Ede, the Netherlands, comes from an athletic family who has always been active in sports. Her mother was an Olympic contestant in rowing twice. Although field hockey is her big passion, she also has been active in other sports, such as gymnastics, tennis, track and field, skiing and snowboarding. 

In addition to being a great athlete, Puck is also an excellent student. She is in a bilingual gymnasium class at the highest level of high school in the Netherlands and her school is ranked 3rd in The Netherlands in respect of the academic level. She is in the top of her class even though she is a year younger than all of her classmates (she skipped a class in elementary school). Puck is interested in science subjects like mathematics, chemistry, biology and science, but she also likes the languages e.g. Latin, English and Dutch. In addition she takes advanced classes in French and next year she will start following the IB english program obtaining the certificate in 2015.

Ever since Puck has visited her cousins in Katonah, New York, several times she has the dream to come study in The USA. Puck also joined classes for two weeks at The Harvey School in Katonah what is part of the bilingual curriculum of her school. 

Puck succesfully completed her SAT (Combined score of 1280 on CR and M) and and TOEFL (107) and she is expected to graduate in June 2015.

Athletic Information

Puck started to play field hockey when she was 5 years old at hockey club MHC-Ede. From the age of 12, Puck was part of the District team of the Dutch Hockey Federation for three consecutive year, including this year. 

As a result of these District trainings many other teams noticed her. However it was decided that it is considered best for her to further develop her skills at her own club where they together made a personal development program. Instead of the team of her own age (B1), she played in the first team of a higher age group, A1 at the highest level, in the season 2013/2014. Despite her young age, Puck already played for the woman’s team several times since the age of 14. She fits in easily and she scored quite a few times. This year she transferred to HC Wageningen where she will play for the first girls team at the highest national level. She will also continue to practice with the first women's team that competes in the Hoofdklasse.

Puck is a very good all-round player that performs at her best as a midfield player. In this position she can use her offensive and defensive skills best. She has developed a good insight on the game and a strong eye for the position of her fellow players.

Academic and personal information

Hanna Yu was born in the People’s Republic of China. At the age of 1 she was adopted by her Dutch parents and she now lives with her parents, brother and sister in Arnhem. She is a very athletic individual just like her family who are active in many sports. Besides field hockey Hanna Yu loves skiing, horseback riding and playing tennis. In addition  music is one her talents and she participated in the ‘voice kids’ competition while singing and playing the piano.

Hanna Yu has coached junior hockey players and she followed a referee training in 2012. In 2013 she was appointed as ‘ACE ’ referee, which is the top level for junior referees.

Her international interest started at a young age, maybe initiated by a visit to her family in Philadelphia, USA. She loves to make international friends. Therefore she went to an international language course in Sutton Valence, UK, with students coming from all over the world. She was admitted to the highest level. On another trip she visited the International Gmeiner school in Accra, Ghana to get an impression of high school abroad.

Hanna Yu is currently attending the Beekdal Lyceum in Arnhem at the Havo level. From the age of 12 she is following a special sports profile, which brings her additional PE lessons, various types of sport courses and sport camps. Her interests in school subjects are chemistry, physics, biology, English and maths. This year Hanna Yu has chosen to follow an additional subject: sports and society that includes extra PE, a sport camp in Sicily, dietetics, leadership and science of sports and exercise. She also has chosen an additional subject besides the required subjects: Fast Lane English, which will lead to an international certificate comparable to the ‘Cambridge certificate’. She is mentor of first year students at her high-school.

Her goal for studying and playing hockey in the USA is to further develop her hockey talent while representing her college in a competition and to obtain a bachelor degree.

Hanna yu started playing hockey at the age of 7 at A.M.H.C. Upward. During her junior career her game has developed to compete at the  national level of the Netherlands.

Her favorite position in the field is midfield but also the attacking positions suit her very well. Hanna Yu is well known for her excellent technical skills, speed and overview. She excels in assisting the goalgetter. In addition she has leadership skills and was captain of her team when they achieved the championship in the top class.

Shannon is 17 years old and is the youngest of two girls. She lives in Amstelveen, The Netherlands, with her parents and sister. As her mother is American, Shannon grew up in a bi-lingual household and speaks both Dutch and English as a native. Her frequent visits to America to spend time with family and friends and to see the country have inspired Shannon with the desire to play hockey and study in the US. This is a perfect opportunity for Shannon to further her dream to one day represent the USA as a member of the Olympic field hockey team.

Shannon is a sports lover and has played field hockey since 6 years of age. In addition to hockey, Shannon is a great lover of water sports. She is a strong swimmer and an avid sailor and surfer (both wave and wind). Shannon has volunteered as an instructor at our local sailing club since 2010. In 2012, she began as an assistant instructor at a CWO accredited sailing school and in 2013 achieved her CWO certification to teach sailing at international level. In the summers of 2012 & 2013, Shannon spent the better part of her summer as a combination of sailing instructor and camp leader at the Vinkeveen Sailing School. She not only has a great love for sailing but also teaching others. She really valued the opportunity to spend time 24-7 with a group of young kids, teaching them more than sailing, helping them grow as individuals.

Shannon has also coached junior teams in 2011 and 2012. This gave her an opportunity to teach young players basic hockey techniques as well as how to work together as a team.

Shannon is attending the highest level of education in The Netherlands (VWO) and is expected to graduate in June 2014. Her subject focus is Sciences and Higher Math. Her favorite subject is Physics and in 2012, she won a competition to build a car, powered by a single brick, to travel a set distance as quickly as possible.

She also really likes to make music. She plays guitar, bass guitar and ukulele. Lies is a 6'1 ft 165 lbs  forward player who scores easily due to her ability to stay calm in the circle in combination with her outstanding technical skills. Lies has a  very powerful shot (forehand as well as  backhand), has a great dribble and she is able to read a game very well. She is  the main penalty corner taker and she often uses  a drag flick. 

Lies was part of the district team of the Dutch Hockey Federation for four consecutive years. Since then, Lies has always played at the highest level in The Netherlands. In addition Lies is a great indoor hockey player

Hester, a native from Amsterdam, The Netherlands, got acquainted with hockey through her family who are very active in sports. Hester has always been an enthusiastic worker, not only at hockey but also at school. She is currently enrolled as a junior at the highest level of high school in the Netherlands. She is a very good student and is expected to graduate in June of 2013. Hester is taking a wide variety of different courses because she has a very broad interest.

Hester is very active in many school activities. She is representing her school in the debating team, participating in the European Youth Parliament. Hester has been selected for the international EYP championship in Europe this year which will be held in Istanbul. In addition to debating, Hester has also been successful in a national math contest. Her team won the first prize and were invited to Boston, where they followed a couple of math courses at Harvard and MIT. Hester was also chosen to be one of the main organizers of a yearly mayor school tournament. This has contributed to the election of one of the members of the student council at her school. 

Hester has a Certificate in Advanced English and is scheduled to take both her SAT and TOEFL in june of 2012. In addition to that she will be doing her AP micro economics this year.

 

Athletic Information

During her junior career, Hester has always played in the highest division in her age group. In 2009, at the age of 14 she was scouted for the district team and was then selected for the reserve national team, in 2010. Last year, at the age of 16, she practiced with the first women's team at her club, Hurley, which competes at the highest national women's level.

She is a very dedicated team player and someone who can really support and lead other players. Therefor she was chosen to be team captain from 2007 till 2011.

Hester's favorite position is on the midfield but she has also played as a defender in the past. She is a good defender and it is very hard to pass her. She is also very offensive because of her good pass and technique. She is always very energetic and never gives up. This combined with her overview and technique makes her an ideal midfielder. Now that she is positioned in midfield she scores a lot. In the second half of the club competition, she has scored in every single game. One of her specialties is the backflip.

Isabel participated actively in various student exchange programs within Europe, which were organized by her school. She also visited different parts of the world with her parents, such as Asia, the Caribbean and of course Suriname in South America, where her grandfather was born.

At school Isabel is a hard worker, delivering good results at the highest level of education (gymnasium) without ever skipping a practice. Isabel will enter her senior year and her goal for the next few years after her exams is to exploit her talent for field hockey. She would like to be part of the American top-class sports mentality. Her first years as a field hockey player were at the field hockey club of Hattem, a club well known for the high level training of technical skills. Right from the beginning Isabel her talents were recognized playing for the highest teams and always playing with one to two year older girls. 

At the age of 12 Isabel transferred to the field hockey club of Zwolle, where she played in the highest national junior competition. With her team she reached the national semi finals in 2010. In 2011, Isabel was invited by the national field hockey association (KNHB) for training sessions with the national junior team (under 18). This year, Isabel is a starter for the first women’s team of the field hockey club of Zwolle, playing in the 2nd highest national women’s league. In her first game she started and scored a backhand goal.

Next to field hockey, Simone is still active in tennis. She plays club competition for Tennis Club Ouderkerk and this year, 2012, she became champion with her team.

Simone skipped one year in elementry school and therefor is a year younger than most of her classmates. She is currently in her senior year of high school at the highest level in the Netherlands (Atheneum) and she is expected to graduate in June 2013. 

Simone is very dedicated to the sport, and her goal is to combine field hockey with her education. Obtaining a scholarship at an American university would be an amazing opportunity for her.
 

Athletic Information

Simone started to play field hockey at Hockey Ignatius College (HIC), a small club in Amstelveen. Here she learned how to cooperate, how to lead a team and her technical skills. In addition, Simone learned that it is important to feel mentally comfortable both on the field as well as in the team to perform at her best. In her junior years she played always in the highest team with girls who were one or two years older. She also played and practiced with the 2nd womens team.Over the years she has developed her leadership skills and improved her level tremendously. 

In 2011, she moved to a new club in Amsterdam, Hurley. She did this because Hurley is playing at a higher level and she wanted a new challenge. She played in the second team of Hurley that competes at the same level as the first team. She immediately was chosen captain of her new team. 

Simone is a hard working, enthousiastic hockey player who is a vital element in a team. She can play in defence and midfield, and most of the time she plays in the centre of the field. She has a good tackle on the ball, good sense of positioning and helping other players on the field. She will do everything she can to make sure that the team spirit is up and that they will fight as a team. Simone often takes the responsibility to lead the team towards victory.

Milou is born and raised in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and grew up as the youngest of three with a brother and sister. She comes from a sport minded family and ever since she was a little girl she has been in love with the game of fieldhockey.

 

She is currently in her senior year of high school (HAVO, holding a 2.7 GPA) and she is expected to graduate in june, 2013. She is scheduled to take her SAT in November and TOEFL test in January. Upon completion of these exams, she will be eligible to compete at the NCAA collegiate level.

 

Athletic Information

Milou started to play field hockey when she was 6 years old at HC Rotterdam. During her junior career she always competed at the highest national level, winning several tournaments and championships with her team. Besides winning the IDC junior hockey league last year, she also played several games for the second ladies senior team of HC Rotterdam, that plays in the ‘reserve hoofdklasse’. In addition, Milou was also selected to play for the Dutch national team.

 

Milou is a real striker and has the ability to always find a way to score. She can play at any forward position but has the most experience as a  central forward. She is a dedicated team player and besides scoring her strong points are her technical abilities, speed and insight in the game. She also has an excellent penalty corner and can hit the ball very hard.

 

Milou sees studying in the USA as a great opportunity to pursue her bachelor degree while competing at the highest level in field hockey.

Carolina was born and raised in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in a real field hockey family. She comes from a big family of six children, herself being number 5.

 

Aside from hockey she has practiced gymnastics for 7 years and she even became champion of Amsterdam in 2009. She is just very much into sports in general, living in Holland she ice skates every winter. And when she went to an international sports tournament in Brussels to represent her school she won medals on all three sports: sprint, 800m and soccer.   

 

Other interests, aside from sports are playing the guitar and painting.  She was scouted when she was 9 to join the educational arts program of the museum the Hermitage. She finished the program three years later. 

 

In addition, she has also coached the juniors of her club for 4 consecutive years (2009-2012).

 

Carolina is an excellent student who is in the top of her senior class at the highest level of high school in the Netherlands holding a 4.0 GPA. She has followed bilingual education and now in her senior years she follows the IB english program. At school she was a yearbook editor in her first year, helped with the junior sports tournament in her 5th and also in her 5th participated in EYP. EYP is a European program dedicated to function as a speaking platform for interested youths in Europe. She and her school team made it to the National finals.

Carolina scored a 115 on her TOEFL and will be taking the SAT test in December and upon completion of this exam, she will be eligible to compete in the NCAA.

Athletic Information

Carolina started to play hockey at the age of 7 at HC Pinoké, one of the best Clubs in the Netherlands. During her junior career, she has always played in the highest team in her age group performing at the highest national level.

 

In 2011, she and her team won the league and this year they reached a third place at the international tournament of the Hague.

 

Carolina is an all-round player and therefore has always played more or less on every position in the field. From right froward to the midfield to left back and therefor she develloped an excellent game insight. This year she plays right/central defense. 

 

Carolina is extremely fast and playing at the right back gives her the opportunity to make long running streaks all the way up to the circle. Her speed also got her the position of first runner in the defending corner. Carolina is a team player and loves the passing game. Carolina’s strengths are her:

Anne was born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and  grew up as the youngest of 3 daughters. Anne has always loved sports and has also been active in other sports than hockey such as horseback riding and judo, in which she as a brown belt.

 

In addition to her activities in sport, Anne also had a semi-professional dance education of 3 years and took piano lessons for 7 years.

Anne is enthusiastic about everything that has to do with field hockey; besides playing she also teaches junior teams at her club. She also has worked in over 20 hockey camps of several organizations.

Besides being a good field hockey player Anne is also a great student. When Anne was 7 years-old she skipped the 4th year in primary school and she obtained her high school diploma at the age of 17 in May 2011. This diploma represents the highest high school academic level in the Netherlands. Anne successfully completed her SAT and is scheduled to take her TOEFL in February. Anne's dream is now to combine field hockey and pursuing a degree in psychology in the United States.

Floortje, a native from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, comes from an athletic family who have always been active in sports. Although field hockey is her favorite sport, she also has been active in other sports, such as tennis and dancing. Ever since Floortje started playing fieldhockey (6 years old) she has been playing in the highest teams of her club. When she was 13 years old, Floortje was scouted for the District team, where she played for 3 years next to her club team Hurley. At the age of 15 she was selected to play for the reserve national team in which she played for a year. Last year, Floortje played for the first womens team of Hurley, which competes at the highest national level in the Netherlands (Hoofdklasse senioren). This year Floortje is captain of the top junior team (MA1), competing at the highest national level.

Floortje is a dedicated team player who is a real leader in the field. She is fast, energetic and has good overview and insight. Floortje usually plays midfield but is multi functional and can play at various positions. Overall, Floortje has great technique and is a well-rounded player.

Personal Information

Amber was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1994. She has lived in this beautiful city for 16 years with her parents and sister. The hockey fields are a two-minutes walk away, so in her spare time she often attends various hockey matches.  Amber has seen a lot of the world, traveling abroad regularly with her family. She has experienced many cultures, habits and languages. Amber wants to learn more about the world and the next place she wants to go is the United States, a fascinating country. Aside from hockey, music is also a big part of Amber’s life; she has her own band and plays saxophone. Another hobby for Amber is running, which she likes to do to keep her physical conditions at a high level. Amber is a determined person and when she sets a goal, she goes after it 100%.

Athletic Information

Amber started player hockey when she was six years old. As a little girl she was always fully committed to her team. And now, ten years later, she still is. Thanks to the sport, she has learned a lot about herself, how to play on a team, and how to work hard. Amber currently plays in the first team of the hockey club called Hurley, playing national level with her team and during the winter she will play indoor hockey.

Over the past years amber has won many tournaments, including both ordinary field and indoor competitions. For the last two years, she has been captain of her team, and knows how to motivate and lead her team.  Amber is a fighter with good technique, but her strongest point is a thorough understanding of the game. She really thinks of hockey as a strategy sport and the combination of her mental and physical game makes Amber a very good hockey player. Amber’s position in the field is usually center midfielder, but she can also play as a center defender if the pressure is high.

On the side, Amber enjoys training youth hockey players and refereeing games, as she has her referee license.

Academic Information

Amber will graduate from high school in June 2012 at the highest level of study in the Netherlands. By that time she will have studied six years at Keizer Karel College in Amstelveen. Amber has always been a good student, going through her studies without difficulties. Last years she was junior mentor at her school and helped new students get accommodated at school. As a result of this experience she learned a lot about responsibility. Amber is ready for something new and hopes to continue to play hockey and study at a challenging university in the United States.
