Rio is from Sydney, Australia. He attained a tennis scholarship both in Mississippi and Idaho from 1997-2001 and then played on the ATP tour for a few years achieving his best win against Hiroki Kondo ATP 520. Rio has won several singles and doubles money tournaments internationally. He has been a tennis coach since 2002 working both in Sydney and Beijing.
