Marco was born and raised in Zug, Switzerland. He was awarded an athletic scholarship to play tennis at the William Carey College in Hattiesburg, MS. During his college career between 1993 - 1994 the team qualified for the year-end NAIA-National Tournament.

After returning to Switzerland, Marco attended school for interpreters. For the past years, Marco has been working as a sports journalist covering all the major sport events all over the globe. His best ranking in Switzerland was N4.
