Guusje Vrieze, is a 16-year old swimmer from Doetinchem, The Netherlands. Swimming takes a big part in the family live and it was no surprise that Guusje started swimming when she was 6 years old. Besides school and swimming, she works 2 times a week at a super market and is she active as class president
Guusje will obtain her high school diploma (HAVO) in the spring of 2013. She will be taking the SAT in May of 2012 and TOEFL in the fall of 2012. Upon completion of these exams, she will be eligible to compete at any collegiate level.
Guusje belongs to the best 5 swimmers under 17 in the Netherlands. Guusje is a member of the Swimclub NDD and has 7 hours a week swim training and 1 hour of strength training. Her favourite strokes are backstroke and breaststroke but she is also very good at the butterfly. Despite a 7 month injury in 2009 in which she dislocated her knee, Guusje came back stronger than ever breaking all her personal records.
Guusje has competed in many national and international events including the FISEC Games in France (2010) and Portugal (2011) and national championships in both juniors as well as seniors.
